The Marching Band has held a national reputation for thirty-five years and has performed at the 1996 Lord Mayor of London’s New Years Day Parade, placed 3rd place class AA in the Orlando Bands of America Regional, participated in the 2001 Chick-fil-a
Peach Bowl Game and Parade, in Atlanta Georgia, performed halftime for 60,000
fans at a UVA Football Game, and most recently competed in the USSBA All States
Championships at Giants Stadium in November of 2005. This Fall, the Pride
participated in the USSBA National Band
National Championship in Annapolis, MD and placed second in nation in its class.
The following day the band performed at the National World War II Memorial in
Washington DC and was the only band invited to perform on Memorial Day at the
National D-Day Memorial in nearby Bedford, Virginia.
The
newly established jazz program has brought additional performing opportunities
for band members including guest performances at Lynchburg’s Ellington by
the Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Ensembles. The
Glass Percussion Ensemble is a unique program in Virginia, and one of only a few
of its kind in Central and Southwest Virginia.
Since the inception of the Virginia Music Educators Association in 1945, the
Glass Symphonic Bands have been named a Virginia Honor Band more than 20
times and have received numerous Superior Ratings at the Virginia Band and
Orchestra Director’s Association Festival. Our 200 participants make up the
Glass Bands and we are one of the largest high school band programs in Central
Virginia. We would be honored to welcome you as part of our award-winning
tradition of excellence.
